7 Alternatives to Network Solutions

7 Alternatives to Network Solutions

Network Solutions is today part of the web.com group. As a whole, they offer a pretty comprehensive suite of services including web hosting and design, eCommerce support, online marketing, digital security, and even remote IT support.

They are one of the few companies which has managed to survive the journey through turbulent times as technology moved forward through the times – which make them a dinosaur among web services providers.

If you’re a little dubious about using their services, fret not. There are many good alternatives – below are six good ones I recommend.

1. Interserver

Website: https://www.interserver.net/

With a history running back to 1999, Interserver has a prestigious pedigree without the attached controversies faced by Network Solutions. They’ve managed to keep the business lean while extending a strong suite of core web hosting products.

In fact, aside from web hosting, Interserver doesn’t dabble in much else except for the sale of domain names. Impressively, much of their core team has remained on board since they started – a strong sign of the stability and good business practices of the company.

Hosting-wise, you’ll find almost anything you need here ranging from standard shared hosting all the way to dedicated servers. Unlikely most other hosts, they also offer specialized hosting services.

Here you can find almost any solution you need. This includes servers for large storage,  dedicated GPU, and even rapid-deploy. Unlike most hosts, they also offer a choice between AMD and Intel technology.

This detailed breakdown of server technology makes them highly suitable for users who are more technically inclined and know what they need. If it’s available, you will likely find it with Interserver.

2. Hostinger

Website: https://www.hostinger.com/

Hostinger’s claim to fame isn’t their breadth of services or even stunning performance. Instead, this host is focused on affordable services that bring web hosting to the masses. Shared hosting starts at an eyebrow-raising $0.99/mo and even deploy on the Cloud with them for as little as $7.45/mo.

The company is also one of the few that offers a free hosting option via its 000WebHost brand. This gives their free users a clear migration path forward should it become necessary. Of late, they have also extended the visibility of their self-developed website builder Zyro.

Should you need an eCommerce solution, you can also go directly for Zyro since it’s under the same umbrella company as 000WebHost and Hostinger. Combined, these three brands offer virtually everything a website owner needs.

3. SiteGround

Website: https://www.siteground.com/

SiteGround is perhaps one of the most recognized names in web hosting. It also lays claim to being one of only three WordPress.org recommended hosts. In terms of pure performance and customer support, there are not many who can match them.

However, thanks to a recent revision in their plans, SiteGround has raised their pricing to a premium. The cost of entry here reflects their server performance and it can be a hard pill for some to swallow.

As a rule of thumb, if you’re looking to host a small or static low-traffic site, then SiteGround might not be the best option. For those who intend to grow, then the sky is the limit here on this hosting provider.

SiteGround plans go all the way to Cloud Hosting, but they do not offer many other associated services.

4. A2 Hosting

Website: https://www.a2hosting.com/

From performance to features, there is a lot to like at A2 Hosting. One of the top performers tracked on HostScore, A2 Hosting has consistently shown remarkable web server performance and reliability of service.

Aside from that, they have great sign-on prices, making them very affordable for a wide range of sites. This is one web host which offers specialized hosting plans for almost anything you can imagine and even brings developer support to affordable shared hosting plans.

Be aware though that prices hike quite a bit after the initial honeymoon period, so if you do sign up here, make sure you go for maximum plan length. After all, you can always take advantage of their anytime money-back guarantee.

Although they do not have the breadth of services Network Solutions does, they give it a good go.

5. ScalaHosting

Website: https://www.scalahosting.com/

ScalaHosting has been in the business for close to two decades now. This is one host that’s managed to adapt and change to evolving customer needs and that has led to its success. While Scala may not be top dog in performance, they remain a solid choice all round.

Shared hosting here comes with a lot of freebies even on the entry level plan. For instance, you get a free domain name, SSL, CDN, plus generous amounts of resources. What makes Scala most attractive though is a unique innovation called SPanel.

This self-built control panel is available to their VPS customers and is fully cPanel compatible. For those who are looking for a way to move out of the cPanel ecosphere, Scala Hosting is your best bet.

Most of their benefits lie in self-developed technologies which makes them hold quite a unique place in web hosting. If you are trying to find an innovative host to move to, Scala is the way.

6. Kinsta

Website: https://kinsta.com/

There’s no really easy way to say it, but Kinsta is a very expensive choice in web hosting. However, there are major caveats to that statement. The first thing to realize is that they focus only on Cloud hosting and WordPress.

This allows them to concentrate on a very small sliver of technologies and do it well. And do it well they do. Kinsta has been consistently one of the top performing solutions providers based on the data HostScore tracks.

Their extremely fast web server response times coupled with special WordPress-specific fine tuning makes them one of the top choices for those looking to support high-performance WordPress sites.

Of course, this makes the choices here a little more limited. But if you need speed and WordPress, there you go.

The Problem With Network Solutions

Network Solutions has changed ownership a number of times. It was initially bought by Verisign in 2000.  Following that, Network Solutions was sold successively to various private equity firms before settling with web.com in 2011.

Having been in business for so long it would be foolish to assume there have been no hiccups. However, Network Solutions seems to have had a long stream of problems ranging from controversial business practices to security breaches.

There is also the matter of scalability to consider. Network Solutions, despite its breadth of services, remains slightly underpowered in web hosting options. You get a choice of shared or WordPress hosting and eCommerce hosting – nothing else.

Final Thoughts

As you can probably tell from the list I’ve provided here, there are many much better options compared to Network Solutions. Some offer better prices, some offer better performance, some even offer more innovative technology.

The most important thing is that most of them don’t come with even a fraction of the cloud of haze that hovers around Network Solutions. Do your website a favor and consider hosting with an alternative to Network Solutions. Your business will thank you later on.
