Namecheap Review Summary
Namecheap is another long-serving company in the web hosting business and was founded way back in 2000. They are an excellent resource for not just new domain names, but you can also bid for some existing ones as well. Editor's Review & Recommendation
Perhaps because of their name, the first encounter many have with Namecheap is more likely to be during a search for a domain name. In this, it has an excellent service with very reasonable prices for domain names. What is great however, is that with the domain name comes free privacy protection which many other companies will charge extra for.
Namecheap has a wide range of plans from shared hosting to managed WordPress, VPS, and even dedicated servers. Their shared plans come at an excellent price point, although there is slight weakness in-depth when it comes to their VPS options.
To note is that their shared plans also offer some extras which may interest developers looking for cheap testing grounds. It isn’t common that a shared hosting provider will have environments that support specialized languages like Perl or Python.
For Newbies and Individual Bloggers
Because of the great startup plans and freebies that come with Namecheap hosting, many new users and bloggers may find this a strongly viable option. For less than $2 to kick off with, you get access to a very basic plan plus domain name, privacy protection, and SSL certificate.
The very reasonable amount of resources offered on these plans make them viable for long-term costing as well. Newbies who are unhappy with current hosts and want to move here can also take advantage of their free site migration offer.
For Freelancers and Small Businesses Owners
The biggest issue that freelancers and small business operators will likely face with Namecheap is in reliability. Although not horribly bad, Namecheap isn’t exactly the most outstanding when it comes to uptime and this might impact brand image for small businesses. Freelancers will also have issues recommending this host to clients for the same reason – despite reasonable costs.
There is a free website builder that can be used for rapid site development, but it isn’t exactly the best in the market. It’s useable for sure but lags dedicated site-building tools like those offered by companies like Wix and Weebly.
For Online Shops
Giving access to web application installers means opening the service to almost all types of websites, including eCommerce stores. Although this is possible with Namecheap, again their reliability of service might cause some impact here.
Online stores need to be ultra-reliable especially since they are processing payments. Can you imagine the problems that could arise if services go down during payments processing and if that happens on a large scale?
For Agencies and Developers
Thanks to the extra support added for developer tools, Namecheap can be a, pardon the pun, cheap platform to do some testing on. It isn’t easy to find a host that has shared web hosting plans that developers can use to run specialized-language scripts. Although from what I seem the field is widening and more choices are becoming available, for the time being, one of them is Namecheap.
There’s not much difference in the onboarding process for Namecheap and for most services everything is close to instant. Once you’ve made your choices and made payment, you’ll quickly get notification on your account details and can get started with your site right away.
