With the introduction of their new Arabic website and a boom in GoDaddy’s overall demand as businesses move online in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, you’d think the company would be needing more employees. But, that’s not the case as GoDaddy has laid off hundreds of its staff, including their social media sales team in Austin, Texas.

On June 24, 2020, GoDaddy announced a reduction in the effectiveness of their outbound calls to customers. This fall caused a decline in customer demand for some of GoDaddy’s high-priced, DIY services like GoDaddy Social. This decision to restructure has affected 814 members of staff at the time of this writing.

However, GoDaddy has offered new roles to over 40 percent of these affected employees.

Aman Bhutani, GoDaddy’s CEO, in a letter to employees, stated that their facilities in Austin had unique complexities and costs. Hence, they decided to close the place. Albeit, Mr. Bhutani noted that the company continues to grow and would be looking to hire more people as they grow.
